Breaking the Laugh Ceiling: Jewish Women Who Changed Comedy — From Torah to Today
- Date: Thursday, February 5, 2026
- Time: 6:00pm–8:30pm
Teacher : Lena Shupper
“She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come.” From Sarah the Matriarch’s ancient laughter to Sarah Silverman’s fearless punchlines, Jewish women have used sharp self-deprecation, biting satire, clever wordplay, and warm storytelling to challenge norms, break barriers, and bring people together. In this lively class, we’ll spotlight trailblazers from Torah heroines to the last century’s comedy icons such as Fanny Brice, Gilda Radner, Joan Rivers, and Ilana Glazer — celebrating the wit, timing, and courage that have made Jewish women a driving force in comedy for generations.
