Movie Discussion: Gentleman’s Agreement
- Date: Saturday, April 22, 2023
- Time: 7:00pm–8:30pm
Nominated for eight Academy Awards and winning three, this film provides an intense look at Anti-Semitism in post-WWII America. Gregory Peck plays a non-Jewish journalist who, tasked with writing about Anti-Semitism, pretends to be Jewish to try to experience this bigotry first-hand. He finds that the trauma of Anti-Semitism reaches far beyond his professional experiences, ultimately affecting his private life and that of his family.
We’ll be looking at four films this year that represent several aspects of what it means to be Jewish in America during the past 100+ years. Please watch the film ahead of time and come to the program ready to join in the conversation.
